When starting a RP, you have to first figure out a few important details. Go through this checklist to start out:
Once you've gone through that checklist, and have satisfactory answers (which I hope you can figure out), You should try to figure out the narrative elements before starting to post. This will make posting easier for you, and more cohesive for your readers. Which in turn will draw in more participants.
So! Amateur writer? Well, I'm not aliased writingroses for nothing, kids. Here are some tips on starting to write an RP:
After you've gone through this(which will take less time than it seems, especially with practise), you will need to post all of the descriptions, restrictions, lists etc. that you have created for this specific world.
And once you have all these posted, you can do one of three things:
You can either post your first RP post in character, or;
You can wait for a response from others for feedback, or;
You can ask another RPer to begin.
The final one is unorthadox, but not unheard of.
Now, you should be ready to start your own rp! An example of a starting post will be added as a reply to this Guide.
- Am I sure that many people will want to join into this RP?
- Is there opportunity for many people to join in?
- Is a board existant for this type of RP?
- Will I be the "main character" of this RP, or will someone else be allowed to take that position?
- Will anyone find my RP idea offensive?

- What Genre am I trying to fit into? What are the stereotypes/conventions of this genre?
- Where/when would I like my RP to occur? (Will it be on Earth? Will it be during the Italian Renaissance?)
- What sort of people would you find in the setting I have created? (Would there be many crowds of people? No one at all?)
- Do I need to develop story-specific characters for my fellow RPers to interact with?
- Will there be a fighting system in my RP? Do I need to develop a fighting system that will be fair for everyone involved? (Are character Stats required?)
- Do certain positions need to be filled? Will I need to post a list of possible classifications in my world? (Do you need specific employees, etc?)
- Is my entire world actually a re-usage of an already existing world, and as such, does my world need to have a restriction on the type of character other RPers use? (Final Fantasy RP; using Wakka/Kefka, etc)
